Name: State of New York. August 13, 1776. Three Dollars
Description: No.3994. Signed by A. Mesier and J.V. Voorhis, Jr. Printed moderately thick stock. Style
similar to September 2, 1775 and March 5, 1776 series. New York Arms at right with
elaborate border cuts with ornaments. Back with vignette of the tablets with the Ten
Commandments, motto LEX REGIT ARMS TUENTUR. Imprint 'Printed by Samuel Louden, in the Year
M, DCC,LXXVI.' Significantly less notes were printed of this type (20,000 notes) than the
lesser denominations ($1/16 to $1/2). A lovely type note, crisp as a board, deeply
embossed and fresh. Crisp Uncirculated. Better margins would bring it to Choice. Tight at
the top with wide margins elsewhere. Very petty rubs on the wide corners. This beauty is
easily worth breaking four figures in our opinion.
Price: $1,200.00 (2006-10-04)
