Name: 1853 SSCA With Arrows dime
Description: Light silver gray with extremely bold detail, probably AU or finer when lost. The
corrosion is very fine, allowing for clear devices and legends, some dark splashes across
reverse, patches of scale at stars 1-2 and star 8. Dimes and other small change were very
scarce in Gold Rush-era California, a fact to which the tiny proportion of the S.S.
Central America treasure that was composed of such pieces further attests. The sharper of
the two dimes recovered and a splendid association piece that deserves strong bidding
action.
Price: $575 (2003-07-25)
