| Name: |
1879 pattern dollar. J-1614, P-1810. Rarity-7-. |
| Description: |
Copper. Reeded edge. Rich and engaging deep tan surfaces display a hint of warm chestnut. Nicely struck and aesthetically appealing. Reverse with Morgan's large perched eagle design, somewhat Teutonic in appearance, at least compared to other American coins and patterns. An ever popular rarity, one of just five examples of J-1614 certified by NGC within any grade or color designation. The present specimen is bettered by just two examples of the issue, both called Proof-65 BN. A splendid opportunity for pattern specialists and Morgan dollar enthusiasts alike.NGC Census: 1; 2 finer within any designation (both Proof-65 BN).
