1870 pattern dollar. J-1004, P-1136. Rarity-7-. |
| Description: |
Copper. Reeded edge. Full rich orange-red mint color with deeply mirrored fields. A beautiful example, hardly faded at all from full brilliance. The strike is bold, as the CAM designation may suggest, and the surface quality is very nice—gem-quality but for some scattered flecks and a few hairlines that only make their presence known under magnification and a bright light. A dollar-sized pattern in copper is a beautiful sight, something that is somewhat without compare in American coinage, as this nation never struck truly large-sized copper coins as did other nations. This exotic flair, and the beauty of the metal, makes for some unforgettable items to be collected—this variety is one of them, here offered in top-shelf grade.PCGS Population: 1; none finer within designation.
