Masonic medal on 1798 Bust dollar, BB-108. About Good or so, markings finer. |
| Description: |
A remarkable early American Masonic medal using a Bust dollar as its host. Engraved in a circle on the obverse with HTWSSTKS or "Hiram the Widow's Son Sent to King Solomon," while the reverse shows two stamped plane and compass symbol, one with a single stamped G inside. Holed at 1:30 on the coin's obverse, but 12:00 relative to H as top of the Masonic jewel. Probably worn or carried by a member of the Royal Arch Masons, with the dollar's date remaining but much of the other detail obscured by even pocket wear. Early dollars with Masonic markings are quite rare, but are avidly sought after. (Estimate: $250-500)
