Name: Carlos II, 1665-1700
Description: Cob 8 Escudos, 1699 L R. Lima. Lions and castles, Jerusalem Cross, Last Habsburg King's
titles C II D. G. HISPANIAR. Rv. Crown over three lines of divided abbreviations, L - 8 -
R, Pillars of Hercules, P. V. A./ 7 - 9 - 9. Fr.1, KM 26.2. This coin is boldly detailed
for this intrinsically crude Cob type but is only lightly double struck, closer to round
than generally seen with splendidly complete royal title, denomination, mintmark, and
Assayer's mark. Far bolder than the example in the 1975 Superior American Numismatic
Association Convention Sale and a trifle better than the Karon specimen. Here is an
exciting and wholly desirable Choice About Uncirculated. (Est. $7,500-$10,000)
Price: $11,000.00 (2006-03-07)
