Name: 1786 New Jersey copper.
Description: 161.1 grains. 28.2 mm. Nice medium brown with mostly glossy surfaces and excellent eye
appeal. A small area of the most shallow sort of surface roughness is present left of the
date, even more minor reverse roughness at URI of PLURIBUS and in other protected areas is
not discerniable without magnified scrutiny and barely requires mention. Earlier die state
than the superb Ford coin, a piece of essentially Mint State quality that brought $23,000.
A minor planchet striation in the upper right obverse field is noted but does not detract.
Really a lovely coin, far finer than usually encountered for this variety, a piece with
excellent sharpness and lots to recommend it to any collector of early American coins.
Price: $700.00 (2005-07-25)
