| Description: |
The 1934 Washington quarter, it might better be called Heavy Motto over Light Motto, as only the words IN GOD WE TRUST are doubled, while LIBERTY and the date 1934 are not. These seem to have been made by taking an earlier working die, with the motto light (as on all coins of 1932 and some of early 1934) and over punching with a master die with the heavy motto. Unlike many other die doublings, the 1934 Heavy Motto over Light Motto has been known for many years. Accordingly, its elusive character is well established. |
