A lovely specimen in warm yellow-orange gold. The 1922 Grant gold dollar normally comes this way, much to the consternation of a particular investor many years ago when the grading services first became popular, and not many coins had been certified. Anthony Swiatek repeated a tale in which many tens of thousands of dollars were spent for two gem coins of this particular gold dollar type, by an investor who was unaware that choice quality is the rule, not the exception, for Grant gold dollars. On the other hand, the 1905 Lewis and Clark gold dollar would be rare and exciting if found in a combination of high grading number and suberb eye appeal. Again, it pays to know the territory.
