Name: 1971 Western Reserve Numismatic Club countermark
Description: Brilliant and lustrous silver surfaces, with a faint fingerprint noted on the obverse.
Housed in a serial-numbered holder from MTB Banking Corporation. Many different types of
coins were countermarked for the 50th anniversary, among them an unknown number of
Eisenhower dollars. In all, two members of the club that were present at the time the 1971
countermarks were struck estimate that around 125 pieces were countermarked of all types
including the Cleveland half dollars, the Morgan, Peace and Eisenhower dollars, several
one ounce silver bars, Kennedy half dollars, British sovereigns, and assorted Japanese
coins. Considering the estimate of 50 to 100 1921 Morgan dollars is included in this
figure, it seems that all other types were struck in very low quantities. The plate coin in
the November 2004 Commemorative Trail article, "Western Reserve Numismatic Club
Counterstamps".
Price: $805.00 (2006-03-14)
