Name: 1918 1C
Description: One of the most impressive multiple strikes we have ever encountered in the Lincoln cent
series, apparently struck eight times (as we count eight different truncations at the base
of the obverse). Glossy tan with an iridescent rose and gold undertone. Struck normally at
first and then apparently caught in the coining chamber, where this piece rattled about
before finally being ejected. Portions of two different LIBERTYs may be seen, as well as
two partial dates, with the others being effaced by successive strikes as each became more
and more off-center towards 1:00. Featured in Coin World's "Collectors'
Clearinghouse" on May 24, 2004. A prize for an advanced error collector and one of
the most spectacular pieces of this ilk extant.
Price: $1,667.50 (2004-08-15)
