Name: 1881 Pattern nickel
Description: Aluminum. Plain edge. Barber's head of Liberty as later adopted for the 1883 regular issue
nickel five cents, V and wreath reverse. Bright silver gray mirrors support frosted design
motifs in a heavily contrasting manner, with a nuance of pale champagne adding greatly to
the overall appeal. A simply gorgeous coin for the assigned grade, one with strong
physical character and equally strong eye appeal. The present specimen is one of just five
examples of Judd-1673 certified by PCGS; four of those are Proof-64, as here, with the
fifth specimen called Proof-65. A coin that will no doubt satisfy potential bidders.PCGS
Population: 4; 1 finer (Proof-65).
Price: $7,130 (2003-12-01)
