A lovely specimen, sharing the MS-68 designation with a number of others in the PCGS roster, probably due in part to resubmissions in hopes of higher grades. However, 1881 as a date is often seen nice, and this coin is an exellent example of a superb gem. Both obverse and reverse are needle sharp in detail. The fields are satiny and very slightly prooflike, while the lustre is extraordinary. The overall aesthetic appeal is superb. Tied for finest graded by PCGS, and off the market since 1978. Another beautiful gem gold dollar.PCGS Population: 31; none finer. |
