| Description: |
A lovely, lustrous Gem example. Beautifully toned in pastel hues of blue, violet, gold, and pink. The strike is about average for the issue with softness noted at the central escutcheon devise on the obverse and the stars on the reverse. The 1851-O is notable as the only trime issue struck at a branch mint; popular and eagerly sought as such. The mintmark on this particular issue is a perfect circle, not elliptically vertical. Not only is the 1851-O the only trime struck at a branch mint, it is the only denomination below five cents struck anywhere other than Philadelphia until the 1908-S Indian cent was produced generations later.
