Name: 1833 1/2C C-1, B-1.
Description: Die states as Eliasberg:447 with no visible clash marks and fine die crack from stars 2
through 7 on obverse, said by Breen to have been "found only on Proofs.” Deep olive
and gold with bright rose highlights, a variegated and attractive color scheme on deeply
reflective surfaces. Tan spot at star 4, planchet chip at inside point of star 13 and
smaller ones elsewhere, two lint marks at star 5 and another at chin. Each detail is
crisply struck and fully realized, including lathe marks on the bust. Some light hairlines
in the fields almost avoid notice and account for a still higher grade not being offered.
While some "Proof” half cents of this issue seem to be more full of questions than
answers, this piece has everything going for it regarding its status as a Proof coin. A
nice addition to an advanced half cent collection, or a striking statement as an inclusion
in a type set.NGC Census: 5; 1 finer (Proof-65 BN). Three pieces have been certified
Proof RB, one each at the 63, 64, and 65 level. The Eliasberg coin was certified at the
same grade level as this specimen
Price: $2,975.00 (2003-07-25)
