The image in its original context on the page:
http://www.stacks.com/lotdetail.aspx?lrid=AN00030788
Name: 1830 G$2.50
Description: "Repaired and harshly cleaned." Even light yellow gold with abundant detail
remaining. The surfaces and devices have all been very finely smoothed, such as one might
see on a granular large cent that has been worked, and a cleaning that followed has left
rather severe hairlines that group together in parallel batches instead of the swirling
hairlines of cleaning or polishing. The arm's length eye appeal is decent, the normal
naked eye visual appeal is adequate, and only under magnification does the smoothing
become apparent. Despite its flaws, this is still a rare and desirable early gold coin
with very little (if any) actual wear. It should be within the price range of many
collectors who otherwise could not have included this type in their set. From the Old
Colony Collection.
Price: $3,910.00 (2005-12-06)
